Kill Devil Hills

The most noteworthy feature of the Town of Kill Devil Hills is easily the Wright Brothers National Memorial, commissioned in 1932 and now operated by the National Park Service.  Here a granite monument to the Wright Brothers sits atop the 90’ dune and signals a nightly salute to the first powered flight.  From those early days to the present, dynamic growth has occurred and Kill Devil Hills is now the most populated town in the area, with more than 7,000 permanent residents.   Residents and visitors alike share the wide beaches, parks, walking trails, and boating access to Kitty Hawk Bay and the Roanoke Sound.  Additionally, the entertainment, shopping, and dining opportunities are plentiful and promising!

Kill Devil Hills Market Information

Given the central location and the typical smaller lot size and higher density, Kill Devil Hills offers a wider range of values and some of the area’s more affordable homes.  With 334 home sales in 2019, this represented almost 16% of all home sales in our MLS.  The value of those transactions was over $106 million or 12.37% of the total volume. The average sales price was $319,010.

The Kill Devil Hills Community

While being the geographic center of the northern Outer Banks, Kill Devil Hills is also the location of the First Flight High School, First Flight Middle School, and the First Flight Elementary School.  A multi-use path follows along the soundfront to these schools, so many neighborhoods are within biking distance of school.  Additionally, this new multi-use path is a safe place for afternoon bike rides, runs or walks. Equally important are the Town’s many ocean access, the majority of which offer parking, hot and cold showers, and boardwalks to the beach.  As well, some have ramps and ocean viewing areas and are handicap accessible.
