Kitty Hawk
Rich in history, the Town of Kitty Hawk hosted the Wright Brothers for three years while they experimented with their dream of powered flight. And they achieved it on December 17, 1903 on a sand dune that later would be within the township of Kill Devil Hills. In those early years Kitty Hawk Village, in the maritime forest area, was the home of the permanent residents, as it is today. Flanked by the Currituck Sound on the west and Kitty Hawk Bay on the south, and of course the Atlantic Ocean on the east, Kitty Hawk offers many opportunities for primary, secondary, or investment home ownership. As well, the Seascape Golf Course is located land that transitions from the maritime forest to the open dune system with excellent elevation and beautiful half acre home sites.
Kitty Hawk Market Data
With 133 home sales in 2019, Kitty Hawk was the location of choice for many buyers due, partly, to larger lot sizes than Kill Devil Hills and lower general pricing than Southern Shores. The number of homes sold represented 6.21% of the total homes sold then and the volume of those sales, $51,868,218, was 6.02% of the market. The average sales price was just over $389,987.
Kitty Hawk Life
Kitty Hawk offers more shopping opportunities with Home Depot, Walmart, Harris Teeter, Rite Aid. Additionally, from fine dining to sandwich shops, there are a number of locally owned restaurants – it will take some time to sample them all! Kitty Hawk is also home to two hotels and the iconic Kitty Hawk Pier, now part of the Hilton Garden Inn property. With a major beach nourishment project completed in 2017, the beaches were substantially improved and flooding risks reduced. Of course, continued maintenance of the beaches needs to be part of future planning to keep NC 12 and the oceanfront homes viable.
